Globe Trekker tv show spoof, “Globe Tracker”. For all who like Disney, travel shows and fun spoof videos, then how lucky are you to spend the next 13 minutes of your life right here enjoying all three of those things at once? That hardly ever happens!
This video is actually three Disneyland attractions cleverly wrapped intro one video and disguised as a copycat show of a popular public television travel program GlobeTrekker. Introduction to Adventureland Tarzan’s Treehouse, The Jungle Boat Cruise ride, and Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye ride are all here and revealed in a way never seen before. Sure there may be things that just don’t add up…like European Mayans that invent the drinking fountain, a riverboat cruise up the Congo that includes wildlife from South America, and four-wheeling inside of ancient temple ruins in India to name just a few. But hey, that’s all part of the suspension of disbelief kind of fun included here.
A little background…
Ever wanted to make your own version of your favorite t.v. show? No? Three days before heading to Disneyland in the fall of 2007, I had this crazy idea that I ran by my wife…let’s take our video camera and create a spoof of one of our favorite Travel Channel shows – Globe Trekker. We did some quick planning, came up with some wardrobe and script ideas, packed our bags and some video gear and we were off to the Magic Kingdom…Ian Wright and Megan McCormick style. Oh yes, and we emailed Comedian Tim Babb from LA who we had never met before (and who had never seen Globe Trekker himself). We found his Disney page on youtube and asked him if he would meet us in Adventureland and play the part of our guide, Danger Dave, in our travel show parody and pilot episode of “Globe Tracker”. Tim has his own collection of original videos at http://www.youtube.com/timbabbcomedian Check him out.
Tim came dressed perfectly for his part and literally within about 10 minutes of my wife and I meeting with Tim and tossing around a few ideas, we started filming and were done within a few hours. Everything was unrehearsed and improvised. There were only a handful of instances where we did two or three takes of a scene!
Filming was the easy part. The editing and pulling together music, graphics, intro animation etc., were all done in little bits over the course of several months as time allowed.
Hey, are you still reading this?? Then you’ve obviously got time to COMMENT, RATE and SUBSCRIBE to Disney Moments. And when you do, good fortune will come to you (which basically means you will be notified when new episodes come online).
Thanks for watching!

Test of the Explorobot project from the Lego Mayan Adventure

My students at MUN Lifelong Learning used the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT kit to complete the Scroll Challenge from James Floyd Kelly’s book, LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT: The Mayan Adventure. The students built a simple arm and attached it to a motor on their robot. The robot then had to move in between two boxes and lift the scroll of paper off the boxes and bring it back to start.

This is my latest NXT Lego mindstorm project. This is the first project out of the book The Mayan Adventure. There is a story that goes along with the book about a kid and his uncle exploring an ancient Mayan tomb. I will design, build, and program five robots in order to solve five puzzles that the kid and his uncle encounter.
In the beginning, the archeaologists cannot open the main door to the tomb because it is locked and protected by deadly traps. Beside the door is a small tunnel. Legend has it that the ancient Mayan king trained spider monkeys to run through the tunnel and stand on a pressure plate, allowing the door to be opened safely.
This robot was designed to navigate the monkey tunnel, using an ultrasonic sensor to determine when to turn. The robot will stand on the pressure plate at the end of the tunnel until I call it back by voice command.
The next project will involve a robot that travels across a string to drop weights that will trigger another pressure plate far below.

This is my newest NXT Lego mindstorm project. This is the second project out of the book The Mayan Adventure ( http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-MINDSTORMS-NXT-Adventure-Technology/dp/159059763X ). There is a story that goes along with the book about a kid and his uncle exploring an ancient Mayan tomb. I will design, build, and program five robots in order to solve five puzzles that the kid and his uncle encounter.
In the beginning, the archaeologists cannot open the main door to the tomb because it is locked and protected by deadly traps. So I built the Tomb Explorer to help me. Then the door was opened and the traps were disabled. So now they are in the reception room. The door was across the other side. Now under the floor is a pressure plate. So if you just walked across the floor the door would lock and poisonous and deadly spears would fall on us and kill us all, due to the pressure plate. The only way to be safe is that there is a vine that traveled across the room. The king, when he wanted to get through without killing himself, would use a spider monkey with some pebbles in its feet dropped them on a smaller pressure plate which disabled the traps.
This robot was designed to travel across a vine with a pebble or something like that. I used a marble. Then, using the sound sensor, it will slow down when I make a noise. Then it will go forward again until I make another loud noise when it’s over the bag. Then it will stop, and then drop the marble. Then it will come back for more.
The next project will involve a robot that will go with strings trailing behind it so with mine and the robots combined strength it will pull out a basket with a key.

This i buildt from Chapter 1 – 4 fom the book Lego Mindstorms NXT The Mayan Adventure.
I have to edit the program little bit to get it to work correctly. I add a moveblock who run in 10 second in the end. This robot its cool and funny when its works correctly.
